Winterfest at Payson Park

Portland Nordic has made the difficult decision not to hold WinterFest as planned.

 

While we were looking forward to celebrating the work at Payson Park, we believe it is not appropriate to host a community celebration at a time when many members of our community are afraid to leave their homes. Our snowmaking project is part of a wider movement to promote accessibility and inclusion, and we do not feel it is right to divert volunteer and partner resources away from the urgent work of supporting safety, dignity, and human rights in Portland.

 

We will still host a brief open house at Payson Park from 9:00–10:00 a.m. on January 31 for those who would like to learn more about the Payson Park Project. During that time, we will also hold a canned food drive, with donations going directly to community members sheltering in place.

We will continue grooming operations at Payson Park and supporting Portland Parks and Rec at Riverside. We are grateful for your understanding, partnership, and continued support, and we look forward to gathering for a joyful and inclusive celebration when the time is right.
