Presque Isle Training Camp

December 27th to 31st, 2017

Portland Nordic invites you to join us on our trip to Presque Isle for early season skiing this December! We will be staying at the Hampton Inn in Presque Isle and skiing at the Nordic Heritage Center. There is ample space in the hotel so any skier who wants to attend the camp will have the opportunity. The Hampton is a quick 10 minute drive (6 miles) from the Nordic Heritage Center. We might venture up to Four Seasons Trails in Madawaska one of the days that we’re there just for a little variety. If snow conditions are spotty in Presque Isle we also have Fort Kent Outdoor Center as a possible backup training venue. We will leave in the early morning on Wednesday, Dec 27th and will arrive back in Portland in the early evening on Sunday, Dec 31st.

This is a great opportunity to get a head start on conditioning and technique training prior to the start of the race season. In particular, there will be an ample amount of time for skiers to receive individualized technique training, which is something that’s not always possible during weekly practices. We plan to have at least 4 (and possibly more) experienced coaches on staff at this camp. This camp will also be a great opportunity for new team members to get to know everyone else who skis with Portland Nordic. We plan on bringing lots of games with us up to Presque Isle and hope to have some fun activities to do when we’re not skiing.

While this trip is intended primarily for high school skiers, we’d also like to invite any interested middle school or BKL skiers and their families. All middle school and BKL skiers must be accompanied by a chaperone designated by the parent of the skier who will be responsible for looking after that skier throughout the trip. We would like to have no more than 3 BKL/MS skiers per designated chaperone.

If you would like to sign up for ski camp please fill out the google form at the following address: Once you’ve filled on the form and sent in payment you will be considered signed up. The cost for skiers to attend the Presque Isle camp will be $275. Skiers will also need to purchase a NENSA membership ($25 for middle schoolers and $35 for high schoolers), which is not included in the cost. NENSA membership is a requirement of Portland Nordic’s insurance coverage.

Payment for ski camp can be sent to Portland Nordic, PO Box 11260, Portland, ME 04104. Checks should be made payable to “Portland Nordic”.  Payment is due by Friday, December 15th.

Camp dues will cover lodging, breakfast, lunch, dinner, trail passes, wax room rental, and transport. Breakfast and Dinner will be provided for us by the NMCC cafeteria each day and Lunch food will be purchased by chaperones and/or coaches and brought to the Nordic Heritage Center each day.

We always need parent chaperones to help with driving and supervising. Chaperones who agree to drive skiers up to camp will pay $200 to attend camp and must also have a current NENSA membership ($45 on top of camp fee). All others will pay the $275 rate and must also have NENSA memberships.

Chaperones must be able to transport at least two kids other than their own skier in order to receive the lower rate. Chaperones will receive ski passes for all five days and are encouraged to get out and enjoy the world class ski facilities while the team is training each day. If you would like to sign up as a chaperone please fill out the google form at the following address and send in your payment:

This is going to be another really fantastic trip and we know many of the Portland Nordic skiers are looking forward to it. Sign up early to make sure that you get a spot. If you have any questions please contact me at the email address listed below.
